The Winter Olympic Games were in full swing for more than two weeks, with a busy schedule of events and many surprises. The different disciplines kept us thrilled day after day, just like the key figures of these Games: the athletes. It is time to take stock and to honour the female athletes who have been awarded medals since the start of the Games.
Several countries led the way in the overall women’s standings. Sweden ultimately prevailed with 6 gold medals, along with 6 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. The United States, meanwhile, won the highest number of medals, with a total of 17 medals among women. The Netherlands, with only 10 medals overall, secured second place on the podium with 6 gold medals and 4 silver medals.
France’s Julia Simon is the most decorated female athlete of these Winter Games with 4 medals in total, including 3 that allowed her to reach the highest step of the podium, and one silver medal completing her tally, all celebrating her performances in biathlon. Milano–Cortina apparently suited the French athletes well, as Lou Jeanmonnot ranks second in this classification with 4 medals as well. Sweden’s Ebba Andersson can be proud of herself and of her performances at these second Games, after reaching first place on the podium in the 50 km Ski Cross and also winning 4 medals.
During these Winter Games, 116 different events were completed. Approximately 1,338 women pushed beyond their limits. These Games brought us surprises, twists, performances, and spectacle. Once again, sport made it possible to bring together people from all walks of life, religions, backgrounds, and beliefs…
See you again in four years.
